Mark C. Dawkins is a Professor of Accounting at the Coggin College of Business, University of North Florida since 2015. Previously, he spent 21 years at the University of Georgia’s Terry College of Business, serving as Associate Dean for Academic Programs (2008–2014) and Director of Diversity Relations (2004–2008). He holds a PhD in Accounting (Florida State University, 1994), MS Accounting (University of Florida, 1988), MBA in Finance (University of Florida, 1987), and BS in Management (Georgia Institute of Technology, 1985).
His research focuses on accounting education, diversity in academia, and financial reporting practices. He has published in prestigious journals including Journal of Finance, Journal of Accounting, Auditing and Finance, and Management Accounting Quarterly. Recent work addresses declining accounting enrollments and the lived experiences of Black students/faculty in accounting.
Awards include the 2006/2003 Beta Alpha Psi Teaching Award, 2009 Ernst & Young Inclusive Excellence Award, and 2014 MLK Fulfilling the Dream Award. He is a certified CPA, CMA, and CGMA, and active in organizations like the American Accounting Association and the PhD Project.
Teaching spans undergraduate/graduate courses such as Intermediate Accounting and Financial Accounting. He has advised numerous students and contributed to academic leadership roles focusing on diversity initiatives and curriculum development.
