Mark Armstrong is the RCM Jazz Professor and Professor of Academic Programmes at the Royal College of Music, overseeing jazz modules and large ensemble projects. He serves as Artistic Director of the National Youth Jazz Orchestra, leading performances and educational initiatives across the UK and Europe. A renowned freelance trumpet player, he has collaborated with Stan Tracey, the Ronnie Scott’s Jazz Orchestra, and Robin Jones’s Latin Underground, spanning diverse jazz genres and commercial music projects. His compositional work includes choral, chamber, and orchestral pieces, alongside arrangements for ensembles like NYJO and commercial outlets like Audio Network. Armstrong is an examiner, presenter, and moderator for ABRSM, contributing to institutional strategy through co-authoring a pivotal 2015 paper. He resides in Blackheath with his family.
