معرفی
Professor Mark Anderson is Head of the School of Environmental Sciences at the University of Hull (UK), a position he assumed in summer 2024 following a 40-year career spanning academia and industry. He holds trusteeship at the Geological Society (2022-2025) and chairs their undergraduate geoscience accreditation review. Since 2009, he has served on the Executive Committee of University Geoscience UK.
Research Focus
Anderson investigates geological deformation processes across scales—from microscopic to tectonic plates—using interdisciplinary approaches combining:
- Structural analysis with isotope geochemistry
- Mineral chemistry and rock magnetism
- Regional stratigraphy to reconstruct crustal deformation environments
His work examines natural and anthropogenic fluid influences on subsurface fracture systems, linking deformation mechanics to plate tectonics.
Teaching Philosophy
He teaches structural geology and rock deformation with emphasis on practical applications and subsurface representation. As fieldwork lead for the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (2005-2010, University of Plymouth), he championed hands-on, accessible experiential learning in environmental sciences.
