Peter Eichhubl is a Research Professor at the Bureau of Economic Geology, Jackson School of Geosciences, The University of Texas at Austin. His research focuses on fault and fracture mechanics, low-temperature geochemistry, and geomechanics, with applications to geothermal energy, CO2 storage, and subsurface fluid dynamics. He holds a Ph.D. in Geology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. His work integrates field observations, laboratory analysis, and numerical modeling to address crustal deformation and subsurface processes.
Research interests include structural diagenesis, induced seismicity, and fluid-rock interactions in energy resources. Active projects involve hydrogen and CO2 storage, geothermal systems, and reservoir geomechanics. Collaborations include the Fracture Research and Application Consortium (FRAC) and the Geological Storage of Hydrogen (GeoH2) initiative.
Publications span over 15 years, emphasizing fracture mechanics, fault reactivation, and geochemical processes in sedimentary basins. Recent work addresses the mechanical impacts of subsurface fluid injection and the structural controls on mass transfer in reservoirs.
