Dr. Mark Alfino is a Professor of Philosophy at Gonzaga University, where he has served since 1989. He holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Texas at Austin (1989), an M.A. (1984), and a B.A. from George Washington University (1981). His research focuses on Ethics, Information Ethics, Philosophy of Food, and Wisdom, with notable contributions to the field of intellectual freedom and library ethics. He co-authored Information Ethics for Librarians and co-edited Handbook of Intellectual Freedom, which won the 2014-2016 Obler Award from the American Library Association.
Alfino teaches courses such as Introduction to Ethics, Philosophy of Food, and Happiness and Wisdom. He has published extensively on topics like free speech, digital privacy, and moral responsibility, with recent work addressing social media ethics and the ethics of food culture. His professional activities include serving on ethics committees, organizing academic conferences, and contributing to educational initiatives like Gonzaga’s Africa programs.
