Mark A. Stern is a Professor of Mathematics at Duke University's Trinity College of Arts & Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University (1984) and a B.S. from Texas A&M University (1980). His research focuses on geometric analysis, Yang-Mills theory, Hodge theory, and mathematical physics, with notable contributions to instanton moduli spaces, Lp-cohomology, and spectral geometry. Stern has been awarded the Sloan Research Fellowship (1990) and is a Fellow of the American Mathematical Society (2013).
His grants include support from the Simons Foundation for work on Yang-Mills instantons and from the National Science Foundation for research on singularities and supersymmetry. Stern has advised numerous Ph.D. students, including Akos Nagy, Luca Di Cerbo, and Benoit Charbonneau. He teaches advanced courses in differential geometry and functional analysis, and his professional activities include invited lectures at international conferences and participation in panels for mathematics competitions in China and Hong Kong.
