Mark A. Ellenbogen is Professor of Psychology at Concordia University and Director of the Centre for Research in Human Development, holding a Canada Research Chair in Developmental Psychopathology. His Stress and Developmental Psychopathology Laboratory conducts NIH/CIHR-funded research on biological-psychosocial interactions in mental health disorders.
His research program examines:
- Risk mechanisms in offspring of parents with bipolar disorder through longitudinal high-risk studies
- Oxytocin's role in social cognition and stress response modulation
- HPA axis functioning during emotional information processing
- Parenting practices as mediators of intergenerational psychopathology transmission
Recent publications (2016-2017) demonstrate strong integration of neuroendocrine methods with clinical psychology, particularly in oxytocin's effects on facial emotion recognition and social support seeking. His work consistently bridges laboratory psychophysiology with real-world family dynamics through projects like the RUSH home stress intervention study.
Key recognition includes:
- Canada Research Chair in Developmental Psychopathology
Dr. Ellenbogen maintains active funding from SSHRC and CIHR supporting his longitudinal cohorts and laboratory infrastructure. His supervision approach emphasizes multidisciplinary training in developmental psychopathology methodology, with students contributing to high-impact publications in journals like Development and Psychopathology and Psychoneuroendocrinology.
The Stress and Developmental Psychopathology Laboratory provides specialized facilities for home-based ecological assessment, laboratory stress induction, and neuroendocrine analysis, serving as the operational base for his Canada Research Chair program and RUSH study initiatives.
