Mariña Arbor Aldea (b. October 17, 1973) is a Full Professor at the University of Santiago de Compostela (USC), holding positions in the Department of Galician Philology within the Faculty of Philology. She earned her doctorate in Romance Philology from USC in 2001 with her thesis on the Songbook of Don Afonso Sánchez. A distinguished scholar, she has held postdoctoral research positions at the Università degli Studi di Padova and returned to USC as a Ramón y Cajal Researcher before attaining full professorship in 2010.
Her research focuses on medieval Galician-Portuguese lyric poetry, manuscript studies, and cultural history of the Iberian Peninsula. She co-leads the Universo Cantigas portal, a collaborative digital project producing critical editions of medieval lyric poetry. Notable awards include the Dámaso Alonso Award for Philological Research and the Extraordinary Doctoral Award.
Aldeer’s work bridges philology and digital humanities, exemplified by her facsimile editions and online scholarly resources. She has authored numerous books on medieval Galician-Portuguese manuscripts, including studies on the Ajuda Songbook and Vindel Parchment. Her recent projects explore musical and textual exchanges along pilgrimage routes, particularly the Camino de Santiago.
