Marit Kathryn Corneil

Marit Kathryn Corneil is an Assistant Professor and doctoral fellow (ABD) in Film Studies at the Department of Art and Media Studies at the Norwegian University of Science and Technology (NTNU). She earned her Cand. Philol. degree from NTNU in 2003 with a thesis examining ethical documentary practices at the National Film Board of Canada. Currently, she teaches bachelor-level courses in Fiction, Documentary, and Film & Video Production while supervising bachelor theses.

Her research focuses on:

• Participatory video and web documentaries
• Sound design in non-fiction film
• New media and social media applications
• Fiction film theory and analysis

Her publications demonstrate a consistent focus on documentary ethics, participatory media, and the intersection of technology and storytelling. Recent work explores interactive documentaries, oral history preservation through film, and the political dimensions of community-based video production.

She actively participates in international conferences including Visible Evidence and SCMS, frequently organizing panels on documentary politics, indigenous media, and digital pedagogies.
