As former Head of Department (2022-2024), she has led significant research initiatives including Cit-egration (2017-2022) and currently directs the international BluePlaces project examining sustainable coastal communities in the context of climate change.
Her research interests encompass national and international migration, mobility, integration, regional development, the development of just places, coastal communities, blue economy, sustainable equal development, aquaculture, gender, masculinity, labor markets, emotions, and postcolonial theories. Aure's scholarly output demonstrates consistent engagement with contemporary migration challenges, shifting from traditional integration paradigms toward diversity thinking and difference-conscious approaches. Her recent publications (2022-2024) reveal thematic clusters around coastal community sustainability, voluntary sector inclusion practices, migrant representation in Northern Norway, and the complex relationship between hospitality perceptions and actual integration outcomes.
As an active educator, she teaches qualitative methods, labor migration, and diverse communities at all academic levels while serving as peer reviewer, examiner, and opponent. Her collaborative work extends across Nordic and Eastern European contexts, particularly evident in her co-edited 2023 volume Migration and Families in East and North Europe: Translocal Lifelines.
Aure maintains strong community engagement through projects like Silent Sofa and embroidery workshops that foster cross-cultural encounters. Her leadership extends to research groups including Sted, Makt og Mobilitet (Place, Power and Mobility), Robuste fellesskap (Robust Communities), and Changing Arctic, reflecting her commitment to addressing contemporary societal challenges through interdisciplinary scholarship.
