Brynhild Granås

Brynhild Granås is an Associate Professor at the Department of Social Sciences, UiT The Arctic University of Norway, specializing in Arctic and polar research contexts. Her work bridges human-animal relations, climate change, and postcolonial geographies.

Her research explores identity processes, materiality, and place-branding in industrialized Arctic towns, with a focus on Sami tourism, outdoor recreation, and the moral implications of human-nature interactions. Recent publications examine transformative alliances in planetary emergencies, dog sledding's cultural significance, and contested urban development.

Collaborations include work with Mats Johannessen Hoel, Line Mathisen, and Gaute Svensson on topics like snowmobile debates, Arctic urban comfort, and performative entrepreneurship in Sami tourism. She contributes to multidisciplinary Arctic studies through theoretical frameworks like destinization and more-than-human spatiality.
