معرفی
Marisa Solomon serves as Assistant Professor in the Department of Women's, Gender and Sexuality Studies at Barnard College, with significant affiliations at Columbia University as Co-director of the Black Atlantic Ecologies project and Earth Institute affiliate. Her interdisciplinary work bridges anthropology, gender studies, and environmental justice through critical race frameworks.
Her research centers on environmental racism's material forms, examining how anti-Blackness manifests in waste infrastructure, soil toxicity, landfill placement, and urban planning. Through Black feminist and Marxist lenses, she analyzes how Black communities improvise with waste to challenge environmental determinism and reimagine ecological stewardship beyond white supremacist frameworks.
Dr. Solomon's publication record (2019-2022) shows consistent focus on racialized urban landscapes, with recent work expanding into abolitionist futures and Black women's fugitive ecologies. Her articles in Journal of International Labor and Working-Class History and Catalyst establish her as a key voice in Black environmental thought.
As Co-director of the Black Atlantic Ecologies project, she leads transnational research connecting race, waste, and resistance across the African diaspora. Her teaching includes Feminist Theory and Critical Approaches courses, with regular office hours indicating active mentorship of undergraduate students in gender and sexuality studies.
