Her research focuses on identity ambivalence, cultural heritage, and economic/political anthropology, particularly within the Macanese Eurasian community. Through ethnographic fieldwork spanning 2003–present, she examines how memory, language, cuisine, and institutional practices mediate social change in post-colonial contexts.
Her publications, including the monograph Heirs of the Bamboo, analyze Macanese identity reconstruction under Chinese sovereignty and global tourism. Key themes include culinary practices as cultural resistance, virtual memory networks, and ambivalence as strategic identity.
Her work has been acknowledged in academic reviews for its interdisciplinary rigor, combining anthropology, history, and political economy to challenge colonial stereotypes and explore post-transition societal dynamics.
