Sara Falcão Casaca

Sara Falcão Casaca is a Full Professor at the Higher Institute of Economics and Management (ISEG), University of Lisbon, where she has held various academic and leadership positions since 1998. She is a leading researcher in Gender, Work, and Organizational Sociology, affiliated with SOCIUS and CSG research centers. She currently serves as the interim President of the Economic and Social Council (CES) and has previously led the Commission for Citizenship and Gender Equality (CIG). Her international engagement includes roles with the International Labour Organization (ILO) and the European Institute for Gender Equality (EIGE).

The recent publications reflect a strong focus on the impact of gender quota laws in Portugal, particularly on corporate boards. Her work analyzes board composition, managerial attitudes, policy effectiveness, and broader gender equality outcomes. She also investigates gender disparities in STEM, diplomacy, patents, and public policies, using interdisciplinary and comparative approaches.

Her scientific contributions are recognized through extensive publications in journals, books, and policy reports. She has contributed to major international bodies such as the ILO and EIGE, and is a member of the Equal Pay International Coalition (EPIC).

Sara Falcão Casaca actively supervises Master’s students at ISEG, guiding research on gender, leadership, equality plans, and organizational inclusion. She has coordinated research projects and gender audits, and has developed training programs on gender and organizational change. She teaches in areas such as Sociology of Work, Gender and Citizenship, and Diversity in Organizations.

She leads key research units: currently President of SOCIUS and coordinator of CSG. Her leadership extends to national institutions like the CES and previously CIG, positioning her at the intersection of academia, policy, and social consultation.
