Marisa C. Gaspar is a Research Fellow at SOCIUS/CSG – Research in Social Sciences and Management, affiliated with the Lisbon School of Economics & Management (ISEG) at Universidade de Lisboa. Her work focuses on identity ambivalence, cultural heritage, and social change within Macanese communities. She holds a PhD in Anthropology from ISCTE-IUL (2013), an MSc from LSE (2009), and prior degrees in Anthropology and Management.

Research Interests: Gaspar’s research explores the intersection of memory, identity, and political economy among Macanese Eurasian communities, particularly their ambivalent relationship with colonial legacies and contemporary globalization. Her work integrates ethnographic methods with institutional analysis, emphasizing kinship, language, and culinary practices as cultural markers.
Publications: Key works include Heirs of the Bamboo (2020), analyzing Macanese identity post-Macao’s handover to China, and articles on Macanese cultural heritage and diaspora dynamics.
Awards/Grants: Funded by the Portuguese Foundation for Science and Technology (SFRH/BPD/118787/2016) for her project on cultural economy in Macao.
