Marisa Clark is a Lecturer in the Department of English Language and Literature at the University of New Mexico, where she has taught creative writing, composition, and queer literature since 1999. She holds a PhD in fiction-writing from Georgia State University, as well as degrees in psychology and 20th-century American literature from the University of Southern Mississippi.
Her creative work spans prose and poetry, appearing in prestigious literary magazines such as Shenandoah, Cream City Review, and Verse Daily. She has received recognition for her nonfiction in Best American Essays (2011) and has served on editorial staffs for publications like New England Review and Five Points. Currently, she is the Faculty Advisor for UNM’s Blue Mesa Review.

A proud member of the queer community, Clark grew up on the Mississippi Gulf Coast and resides in Albuquerque with three parrots, two dogs, and various visiting wildlife. Her debut poetry collection, BIRD, is set for publication in spring 2024, marking a significant milestone in her creative career.
