Marios Polycarpou is a Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering and Director of the KIOS Research and Innovation Center of Excellence at the University of Cyprus. He also holds a Visiting Professorship at Imperial College London's Faculty of Engineering. His expertise spans intelligent systems, adaptive control, machine learning, and critical infrastructure systems, with over 400 peer-reviewed publications and 7 co-authored books.
Education: B.A. in Computer Science and B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering from Rice University (1987); M.S. and Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from University of Southern California (1989, 1992).
Research focuses on interdisciplinary challenges in control systems, cyber-physical networks, and fault diagnosis. He leads the KIOS Center, advancing innovation in energy and water infrastructure resilience.
Honors include IEEE and IFAC Fellowships, the 2016 Neural Networks Pioneer Award, and editorial leadership roles such as Editor-in-Chief of IEEE Transactions on Neural Networks and Learning Systems (2004-2010).
Funding includes prestigious ERC Advanced Grants and EU Teaming projects. He has served as President of the IEEE Computational Intelligence Society (2012-2013) and European Control Association (2017-2019).
