Marion Valarcher is a postdoctoral researcher in Sociology and an affiliated researcher at the Center for Research on Social Inequalities (CRIS) at Sciences Po. She is currently conducting research within the ENTRAVES project at the University of Tours, CITERES Laboratory, CoST team, focusing on work in the school space. Her academic work is deeply rooted in the sociology of education, with a focus on student aspirations, orientation processes, and institutional inequalities.

Her research centers on educational inequalities, particularly how high school students in the Paris region navigate post-baccalaureate orientation. She investigates the role of digital platforms like Parcoursup, institutional standards, and socialization processes in shaping academic aspirations and decisions. Her work combines qualitative and quantitative methods to analyze how students from different backgrounds understand and engage with selective and non-selective institutions.
The recent publications reflect a strong thematic focus on higher education access, student motivation, reorientation, and the sociology of educational markets. Her work critically examines how structural inequalities are reproduced through seemingly neutral platforms and administrative procedures.
Marion has taught sociology, research methods, and social inequalities at multiple institutions including Sciences Po, Paris Cité University, Paris 8 (Vincennes-Saint-Denis), and the University of Tours, across undergraduate and master’s levels.
