Marion Bowman serves as an International Tutor and Denstudy Adviser at the School of Dentistry, University of Leeds. She provides one-to-two-one academic support, designs workshops, and leads the International Foundation Year module: Introduction to Dentistry and Medicine (DSUR0100). Her role bridges dental education with academic skills development.
- Responsibilities: 1:2:1 student support, workshop development, module leadership, staff team contributions to teaching activities (MMIs, OSCEs, SP roleplay).
- Education: Masters in Science Education (distinction), PGCHEP, DELTA, CELTA, Postgraduate Certificate in Dental Ethics and Law, BSc, and English Language Teaching qualifications.
Research interests focus on dental communications, using discourse analysis to explore sensitive patient conversations about periodontal disease. Prior work investigates transitions from school to university, threshold concepts, and academic skill barriers. Her research includes collaborative projects to reduce plagiarism, improve reflective writing in Nursing, and enhance Computing students' project evaluations.
Professional memberships include the Academic Skills Network, ALDinHE, and BALEAP. She has held diverse roles across South Africa, Poland, and the UK, including teaching on International Foundation Year programs and developing online learning resources.
