Mario Hoyos is a Research Associate at the Instituto de Ciencia y Tecnología de Polímeros (ICTP) under Spain's Consejo Superior de Investigaciones Científicas (CSIC). His academic journey includes a Chemistry degree from Universidad Autónoma de Madrid, a Master's in Plastics and Rubber, and a European PhD (2008) involving research stays in Slovakia, France, and Italy. Post-PhD, he held positions at the University of Genoa (2008-2009) and University of Hawai’i (2009-2010). Since 2012, he has been at ICTP-CSIC, where he secured a Marie Curie Fellowship (2013) for hybrid materials research.
His core research encompasses:
- Organic Electronics: Design of conjugated polymers and semiconducting hybrids
- Advanced Materials: Non-wettable electronics and nanostructured systems
- Sustainable Innovation: Solvent-free processing for energy storage
With 31 publications, his work emphasizes catalytic polymer synthesis and electronic material optimization. Recent articles explore energy storage electrolytes (2016) and charge mobility in poly(triarylamine)s (2014).
Awards and recognitions:
- RSEQ Thesis Prize (2009)
- MIT Innovators Under 35 Finalist (2012)
- Marie Curie Fellowship (2013)
- InvestigArte Prize (2015)
He participates in 14 international projects, including industrial collaborations like Spain's first silicone 3D printer development, and holds memberships in 3NEO and COST Action MP1202.
