Bernadette Charleux

Bernadette Charleux is a French academic and materials scientist, currently serving as Deputy Vice-President for Research and Development at Saint-Gobain since 2013. She held full professorships at University Pierre and Marie Curie (Paris 6) from 2001–2009 and at University Claude Bernard, Lyon 1 from 2009–2013, where she directed the research laboratory C2P2 (CNRS – UCB Lyon 1 – CPE) and the team Chemistry and Processes of Polymerization. Her academic career began as a CNRS researcher (1993–2001).

Research Focus: Bernadette's work centers on polymerization chemistry, including controlled radical polymerizations, aqueous/non-aqueous dispersed media reactions, synthesis of well-defined polymer architectures, and self-assembly of amphiphilic block copolymers. She has pioneered organic-inorganic hybrid nanostructured colloids, advancing applications in materials science and chemical engineering.

Scientific Recognition: Her accolades include the CNRS Silver Medal (2012), Knight of the Legion of Honour (2013), and Grammaticakis-Neuman Prize (2011). She was also a Senior Member at the Institut Universitaire de France (2009).
