Dr. Marina Rozman is a Senior Research Officer at the School of Life Sciences, University of Essex, UK. She holds a PhD in Biochemistry (2022), an MSc in Molecular Medicine (2018), and a BSc in Biotechnology and Drugs Research (2017 from University of Rijeka). Her research focuses on enzymology, structural biology, and redox chemistry of heme proteins, particularly dye-decolorizing peroxidases. She utilizes advanced techniques like femtosecond crystallography to study enzyme mechanisms and catalytic pathways.
- Education:
- PhD Biochemistry, University of Essex (2022)
- MSc Molecular Medicine, University of Essex (2018)
- BSc Biotechnology and Drugs Research, University of Rijeka (2017)
Research Interests: Her work explores the structural basis of enzymatic catalysis, redox mechanisms in heme proteins, and applications in biocatalysis. Key areas include:
- Enzyme structure-function relationships
- Compound I formation in peroxidases
- Role of water and amino acids in catalytic cycles
- Environmental biotechnology via enzyme design
Publications: Her research spans 10+ peer-reviewed articles, with recent studies focusing on structural insights from dye-decolorizing peroxidases, including oligomerization effects, water-mediated redox reactions, and arginine-catalyzed FeIV=O formation. These studies advance understanding of enzymatic redox chemistry with implications for biocatalyst design.
Labs/Teams: Active within the School’s structural biology and enzymology research groups.
