Marina Ratova

Dr. Marina Ratova is a Senior Lecturer and Programme Lead for the MSc Engineering Project Management at Manchester Metropolitan University's Department of Engineering. Her research focuses on advanced materials for environmental remediation, particularly semiconductor photocatalysis for water treatment, air purification, and green hydrogen production. She holds a PhD from Manchester Metropolitan University (2013) and has held postdoctoral roles at Queen’s University Belfast and MMU, establishing a specialized photocatalytic materials testing laboratory.

Education:

• PhD in Surface Engineering, Manchester Metropolitan University (2013)

Research Interests: Development of visible-light active photocatalytic materials, antimicrobial surfaces, surface modifications for industrial applications, and low-temperature deposition techniques. Collaborations span microbiologists, plasma scientists, and chemists to address global environmental challenges.

Labs/Teams: Founded and manages MMU’s photocatalytic materials testing laboratory, supporting research staff, postgraduate students, and commercial clients.

Teaching: Leads MSc Engineering Project Management units and supervises postgraduate research projects in photocatalytic materials and project management.
