Dr James Redfern is an interdisciplinary microbiologist and Deputy Head of the Department of Life Sciences at Manchester Metropolitan University. His research focuses on biofilm control, antimicrobial materials, and regulatory science, emphasizing standardized methodologies to ensure impactful applications. He collaborates with engineers, chemists, and industry partners, securing over £1 million in funding from UKRI, InnovateUK, and Horizon Europe. Dr. Redfern is actively involved in national and international networks, including the International Biofilm Standards Task Group and the Bio-Effective Surfaces for Transport (BEST) Network.
His teaching spans undergraduate biology programs and bioscience apprenticeships, emphasizing practical skills in microbiology and biochemistry.
