Professor Marina Kuimova is a Professor of Chemical Physics at Imperial College London's Department of Chemistry within the Faculty of Natural Sciences. She specializes in fluorescence imaging and time-resolved spectroscopy to study biologically relevant processes, particularly using molecular rotors to measure microviscosity in live cells and aerosols.
Education: M.Sc. in Chemistry from Moscow State University (2001), Ph.D. from Nottingham University (2005). Postdoctoral research with Prof. David Phillips followed by fellowships at Imperial, leading to her current role as a Professor since 2016.
Research focuses on molecular rotor design for imaging viscosity, temperature, and DNA G-quadruplexes in live cells. Key areas include photodynamic therapy (PDT), aerosol particle viscosity, and applications in cancer and neurodegenerative diseases.
