Marilyn Borner is a Lecturer in the Department of Writing and Rhetoric at Oakland University, where she has taught since 2007. She holds a B.A. in Communication Arts from Oakland University and an M.A. in English with a Creative Writing concentration from California State University Fullerton. Professionally, she serves as co-publisher of the Italian Tribune newspaper and previously held editorial leadership roles at the Orange County Register.
Her research explores composition pedagogy, vocabulary development, and reflective learning practices. She has presented at national conferences including the Conference on College Composition and Communication (CCCC), Cultural Rhetorics Conference, and Lilly North Conference, focusing on transfer theory and equity in writing education. Borner co-authored chapters in Grizz Writes and participates in faculty development communities like 'Adventure, Adapt, and Achieve.'
She teaches foundational courses including WRT 1050 (Composition I) and WRT 1060 (Composition II), drawing from her interdisciplinary background in journalism, creative writing, and literature instruction.
