Marilyn Ahun, PhD, is a Junior Scientist at the Research Institute of the McGill University Health Centre (RI-MUHC), affiliated with the Child Health and Human Development Program and the Centre for Outcomes Research and Evaluation. Her research focuses on understanding how parental mental health and parenting behaviors influence child development across global contexts, particularly in high-income and low/middle-income countries. She leads studies in Ghana and Tanzania, examining maternal and paternal mental health, parenting interventions, and sociocultural mediators of child outcomes.
Research Focus: Dr. Ahun employs mixed-methods approaches to analyze associations between parental depression and child cognitive, socioemotional, and academic outcomes. She investigates gene-environment interactions, socioeconomic moderators, and implementation strategies for parenting interventions in sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular emphasis on father engagement and integrated health/nutrition programs.
Selected Publications: Her work includes systematic reviews on parenting interventions, longitudinal studies on maternal depression, and qualitative evaluations of health programs in Mozambique, Tanzania, and India. Recent articles explore cash transfer programs, maternal smoking impacts, and the role of school experiences as mediators.
Key Collaborations: Dr. Ahun collaborates with institutions across Africa and contributes to global health initiatives through UNICEF/WHO frameworks.
