Dr. Marijana Macis is a Senior Lecturer in TESOL and Applied Linguistics at Manchester Metropolitan University's Department of English within the Humanities and Social Sciences School. She holds a PhD from the University of Nottingham, an MA from the University of Santiago de Chile, and a BA from the University of Banja Luka. Her research focuses on second language vocabulary acquisition, particularly methodologies for teaching and learning collocations, spacing effects in vocabulary retention, and incidental learning processes. She has been recognized with a Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (2019) and featured in the top 10 TESOL 2019 Convention takeaways for her work on spacing effects.
Teaching responsibilities include courses such as First Language Acquisition, TESOL 3, and Learning and Teaching Vocabulary at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Her publications span high-impact journals like Language Learning and Studies in Second Language Acquisition, addressing topics such as form-focused instruction, lexical coverage in viewing comprehension, and optimal spacing schedules for vocabulary learning.
