Marielle Hegetschweiler is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Biochemistry at the University of Arizona. Her research focuses on understanding how molecular chaperones inhibit neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s, and Huntington’s, as well as their role in cancer progression. She leads the Wälti Lab, employing advanced techniques including NMR spectroscopy, cryo-electron microscopy, fluorescence, and mass spectrometry.
- Education:
- Ph.D. in Biochemistry, ETH Zürich (2010–2015)
- B.S. and M.Sc., ETH Zürich (2010)
- Professional Background:
- Postdoctoral Fellow at NIH Bethesda (2016–2022)
- Joined University of Arizona as Tenure Track Faculty in 2022
Her lab investigates chaperone mechanisms and their therapeutic potential, with a focus on Hsp60/10 overexpression in cancer prognosis. The group combines biochemical assays with cutting-edge structural biology approaches to elucidate molecular pathways.
Labs/Teams: Wälti Lab (University of Arizona).
