Abhinav Nath is an Associate Professor at the University of Washington's School of Pharmacy, Department of Medicinal Chemistry, where he serves as Interim Chair. His research focuses on protein dynamics in neurodegenerative diseases and drug metabolism.
- B.A. in Chemistry and Biology, University of Virginia (2003)
- Ph.D. in Medicinal Chemistry/Biomolecular Structure & Design, University of Washington (2008)
- Postdoc in Molecular Biophysics & Biochemistry, Yale University
The Nath Lab investigates how protein dynamics underpin human health and disease. Key projects include:
- Characterizing conformational states of tau protein in Alzheimer’s disease
- Studying molecular chaperones like Hsc70 for tau aggregation inhibition
- Developing methods to analyze amyloid formation phases
- Exploring functional heterogeneity in detoxification enzymes like GSTs
His research spans biophysics, pharmacology, and computational modeling, with recent publications covering tau aggregation inhibitors, CYP enzyme dynamics, and amyloid formation mechanisms. Methodologies include single-molecule fluorescence, NMR, and Monte Carlo simulations.
Scientific contributions include:
- American Heart Association Postdoctoral Fellowship
The lab actively trains graduate students and postdoctoral fellows, with alumni like Isabel Yannatos (now at University of Pennsylvania) and current members including David Baggett and Eleanor Vane. Collaborations exist with the Klevit Lab (UW Biochemistry), Rhoades Lab (University of Pennsylvania), and Miranker Lab (Yale University).
