Mariela Hristova is an Associate Professor and Nursing Librarian at Oakland University Libraries. She holds significant roles in library governance, including serving on the Library Committee on Appointment and Promotion, the Executive Committee, and multiple task forces focused on instruction, online interfaces, and strategic planning. At the university level, she contributes to the Academic Council and the Non-Academic Conduct Committee. Her professional affiliations include the American Library Association and Michigan Academic Library Association.
Dr. Hristova earned her Master of Science in Information Studies from The University of Texas at Austin (2005) and Master of Arts in English from Kansas State University (2002). Her research focuses on information literacy, instructional design, and digital tools, with notable work on user-centered library interfaces, academic integrity courses, and RefWorks usage patterns. She has presented widely on topics like e-learning integration and library widget development.
Her publications span journals such as College & Undergraduate Libraries and Journal of Information Literacy, reflecting a thematic emphasis on technology-enhanced learning and library systems optimization. She actively mentors colleagues and participates in national library initiatives, including leadership roles in the Southeast Michigan League of Libraries.
Service contributions include chairing the Online User Interfaces Team, the Events & Exhibits Committee, and multiple search committees for library roles. She has also reviewed manuscripts for academic journals and contributed to campus master planning efforts.
