Marie Stender is a Senior Researcher and Head of the Research Group 'Transformation of Housing and Places' at Aalborg University's Department of the Built Environment within The Faculty of Engineering and Science. She holds a PhD from Aalborg University & Royal Academy of Arts, School of Design. Her work focuses on architectural anthropology, urban renewal, and social sustainability in disadvantaged neighborhoods. She leads the Hedeskov Living Lab and chairs the Nordic Research Network for Architectural Anthropology.

Research interests include urban-domestic boundaries, place-making, and the interplay between built environments and social life. Notable projects include the RESPOND pandemic research initiative, evaluations of Danish housing renewal programs, and studies on co-housing models. Her recent work explores post-pandemic residential design and the socio-spatial impacts of urban policies.
Publications span architectural anthropology, urban policy analysis, and evaluations of housing regeneration projects. She frequently contributes to interdisciplinary dialogues on regenerative practices and the role of built environments in fostering social sustainability.
