Marie Mulvey-Roberts is a Professor of English Literature at the University of the West of England (UWE Bristol), affiliated with the ACE - Creative and Cultural Industries department. She specializes in Gothic literature, gender studies, and the intersection of literature with medicine and human rights. Her research focuses on radical women writers, Victorian and modern feminist authors, and Angela Carter's legacy.
Her notable works include *Dangerous Bodies: Historicising the Gothic Corporeal* (winner of the Alan Lloyd Smith Memorial Prize), edited volumes on Caroline Norton and Rosina Bulwer Lytton, and co-founding the *Angela Carter Society*. She has curated exhibitions like *Strange Worlds: The Vision of Angela Carter*, attracting over 11,000 visitors. Her current projects include a biography of suffragette Constance Lytton and her grandmother Rosina Bulwer Lytton.
Mulvey-Roberts holds a BA, MA, and PhD from the University of Manchester, and a PGCE in English and TEFL from Manchester Metropolitan University. She has received prestigious fellowships from the Leverhulme Trust and the Australian National University. Her work bridges academia and public engagement, including founding the *Mapping Literary Bristol Project* and editing *Women's Writing* journal.
Her research interests span Gothic studies, feminist literary criticism, and the cultural history of medicine. She actively supervises PhD students in these areas and has published over 30 books, with a focus on recovering marginalized women’s voices in literature and history.
