Marie-Morgane Abiven is a researcher affiliated with the François Viète Center at the University of Western Brittany. Her work focuses on digital humanities and the conservation of maritime heritage, particularly through comparative studies of the arsenals of Brest and Venice. She specializes in applying semantic web technologies and 3D modeling to document industrial landscapes and heritage preservation.
Her research involves collaboration with institutions such as the IUAV University of Venice (CIRCE Lab) and the European Center for Virtual Reality (CERV). Key projects include analyzing the technical evolution of arsenals, comparing infrastructure like forges and cranes, and developing digital tools for heritage conservation. She has presented her work at international workshops and conferences, including the Franco-Italian Workshop on Arsenals (2018) and events organized by the Société Française d’Histoire des Sciences et des Techniques.
Abiven’s methodologies integrate historical research with modern technologies, such as photogrammetry and GIS mapping, to reconstruct and visualize industrial heritage sites. She has conducted fieldwork in Venice, accessing archives and conducting site visits to study Venetian arsenals’ architectural and technological features.
