Marie-Luise (Mel) Kohlke is a Senior Lecturer in English Literature at Swansea University's Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, specializing in Neo-Victorian Studies, trauma literature, gender studies, and cultural memory. She founded and edits the open-access journal Neo-Victorian Studies and co-edits Brill|Rodopi’s Neo-Victorian Series.
Her research explores the intersections of historical trauma, gender politics, and Gothic aesthetics in contemporary reimaginings of the Victorian era. She teaches modules on trauma narratives, Neo-Victorian literature, and academic publishing.
Dr. Kohlke's publications demonstrate a consistent focus on the ethical and political dimensions of reinterpreting historical violence through modern literary and media forms. Her PhD students investigate topics spanning digital futures, trauma processing, and Gothic gender dynamics.
