Marie-Lou Gaucher is a Professor at the School of Veterinary Medicine, University of Montreal, within the Department of Pathology and Microbiology. She holds leadership roles as Co-Director of the CRSV (Research Chair in Meat Safety) and as a member of research groups including GRESA (Food Safety Research Group) and CERCL (Clinical Expertise and Research Center in Animal Health and Well-being). Her research focuses on sustainable animal production, bacterial pathogen control, and reducing antibiotic use in poultry farming. She has contributed to over 15 peer-reviewed articles, addressing topics like antimicrobial resistance, Clostridium perfringens dynamics, and food safety in poultry and pork production.
Key projects include leading initiatives to optimize antibiotic use and developing alternative approaches to combat poultry diseases such as colibacillosis and necrotic enteritis. She has received the prestigious Prix de la Technopole (2017) for her contributions. Her work spans academic roles, including teaching courses on veterinary public health and meat hygiene inspection. She has supervised six graduate students, advancing knowledge in poultry microbiology and pathogen control.
