Marie Lindkvist is an Associate Professor in Epidemiology and Biostatistics at the Department of Epidemiology and Global Health, Umeå University. She serves as Director of Studies and holds a PhD in Statistics. Recognized as a “Distinguished Teacher” in Umeå University’s pedagogical qualification model, she specializes in teaching biostatistics and research methods. Her primary research focus is children’s health conditions, particularly in low-resource settings like Tanzania, and she leads projects such as the Salut child health intervention programme in Västerbotten, Sweden. She co-supervises PhD students researching child health in sub-Saharan Africa and contributes to public health projects in Sweden and globally.
Her research spans epidemiological studies on obesity trends, social-emotional child health, nursing home care, and healthcare team dynamics. Key projects include analyzing social inequalities in child health outcomes, evaluating leadership impacts in healthcare settings, and exploring resident thriving in nursing homes. Lindkvist has received a scholarship from the Erling-Persson Family Foundation and collaborates in research groups like Stat4Reg and the U-Age programme. Her work emphasizes methodological rigor and interdisciplinary approaches to public health challenges.
Notable contributions include studies on sexual violence among university students in sub-Saharan Africa, pain management in elderly care, and the equity impact of universal child health programmes. She has advised on interventions to improve person-centred care in nursing homes and home care services, emphasizing leadership’s role in staff well-being and patient outcomes.
