Marie Demker is a Professor of Political Science at the University of Gothenburg's Department of Political Science, affiliated with the Faculty of Humanities. She has held leadership roles, including Dean of the Faculty of Humanities (2017–2022) and Pro-Dean for Research and Education Strategy (2012–2016). Currently, she serves as Deputy Chair of the University's Ethics Review Board and a board member of the Royal Gothenburg Society of Sciences. Her research bridges political ideas, philosophy, and history, focusing on societal change, democracy, and migration. She has authored over 20 books and 150 articles, including a forthcoming biography of Pierre Mendès-France. Demker is actively involved in public debate through media contributions and co-authors detective novels with her husband, Ulf Bjereld.
