Marie Cronqvist is an Associate Professor in History at Lund University and a Professor of Modern History at Linköping University since 2024. She is affiliated with the Department of History at Lund University and serves as a researcher and steering board member for the RJ program 'At the End of the World' at the Centre for Theology and Religious Studies (CTR).
Her research focuses on 20th century Nordic and European cultural and media history, with particular emphasis on Cold War culture, media narratives in the postwar era, civil defence culture, and transnational broadcasting. Her scholarly work explores the intersections of media, culture, and politics during the Cold War period, with special attention to Sweden's unique position and narratives.
Cronqvist's research output shows a consistent trajectory from her dissertation on spy narratives in Swedish Cold War culture (2004) through projects on civil defence in the atomic age, East German television exchanges, and current work on psychological defence and media preparedness. Her publications span historical analysis, media studies, and cultural theory, reflecting her interdisciplinary approach to Cold War studies.

Cronqvist has successfully secured funding from major research councils including the Swedish Research Council (Vetenskapsrådet), Riksbankens Jubileumsfond, and Crafoord Foundation. She coordinates the international research network 'Entangled media histories (EMHIS)' with members from 15 countries and co-initiated the DigitalHistory@Lund platform. Her current projects include 'Soundscapes of Warning' (2024-2026) and participation in the 'At the End of the World' program (2023-2028). She also serves on the review committee of humanities within the Wallenberg Academy Fellowship Programme.
