Marie-Christine Doran is a Full Professor of Comparative Politics at the School of Political Studies, University of Ottawa. Her research focuses on democratization, political violence in Latin America, criminalization of dissent, Indigenous rights, and the role of memory in post-conflict societies. She holds a Ph.D. from the Université du Québec (2006), and has been awarded the Governor General's Academic Gold Medal (2005-2006).

Research Interests: Combines theoretical analysis with fieldwork in Latin America, examining topics such as criminalization of human rights activism, political-sexual violence, and Indigenous political mobilization. Current projects include studies on violence and democracy in Colombia and Chile, funded by SSHRC grants.
Awards:
- 2005-2006: Governor General's Academic Gold Medal
Teaching: Teaches courses on Latin American politics, democracy, political violence, and Indigenous rights. Recent courses include Forms of Contemporary Democracy in Latin America and Political Identities of Indigenous Peoples.
Research Collaborations: Active in international networks such as the International Panel on Exiting Violence (Paris), ANR SoV (France), and the South-North Exchange (Pittsburgh). Leads the Observatoire Violences, criminalisation et démocratie en Amérique latine.
Labs/Teams: Founded and directs the Observatoire, a multidisciplinary research group analyzing violence dynamics in Latin America through ethnographic and discourse analysis methods. Collaborates with scholars from Canada, France, Colombia, and Chile.
