Marie-Christine Chalus

Marie-Christine Chalus is the Director General of iaelyon School of Management at Université Jean Moulin Lyon 3, a position she has held since September 2023. She is also President of the IAE FRANCE network since 2024 and Entrepreneurship Mission Officer for the university. She leads the Strategy, Operations and Decision-Making Teaching and Research Center and founded the CREATE research team on entrepreneurial ecosystems within the Magellan Laboratory. Her roles combine academic leadership, research direction, and institutional strategy.

Marie-Christine Chalus holds a Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) and is a full Professor in Management Sciences (CNU Section 06). She earned her academic training through positions at Université Lyon 1, Université Grenoble-Alpes, Baruch College (New York), and HEC Montréal before joining iaelyon in 2013.

Her research centers on entrepreneurship, particularly entrepreneurial ecosystems, societal entrepreneurship, business succession, and strategic monitoring. A strong advocate for gender equity, she investigates women entrepreneurs and women investors, and their roles in governance. Her work bridges theory and practice, informed by seven years in the private sector supporting SMEs and business creation.

The recent publications and edited volumes reflect a consistent focus on gender, governance, resilience, and innovation. Themes include strategic intelligence, female entrepreneurship, ethical leadership, and the societal impact of management education. Her work emphasizes interdisciplinary collaboration, practical relevance, and contributions to public policy.

She has been actively involved in socio-economic circles, serving as president of the Société d’Economie Politique et Sociale de Lyon (SEPL) and co-founding Femmes Business Angels Lyon. She leads the ANR-funded INDUSTRIFEM project and the SFRI/ANR Graduate+ program. Her leadership in the IAE FRANCE network promotes accessible, high-quality management education with strong regional and international impact.

She supervises research through the CREATE team (over 20 researchers) and the Executive DBA program. Her teaching covers strategic management, entrepreneurship, and monitoring. She advocates for civic-minded education, requiring students to complete 20–30 hours of volunteer work. Her vision integrates academic excellence with social responsibility.
