Marie-Chantal Leclair is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Music Performance at McGill University's Schulich School of Music. She is renowned as a saxophonist and Artistic Director of the Quasar Saxophone Quartet, established in 1994. Her work emphasizes contemporary, electronic, and experimental music, with over 100 premieres and collaborations with composers like Klas Torstensson and Jean-François Laporte. She has performed with orchestras including the Montreal Symphony and the Société de musique contemporaine du Québec, and is a virtuoso on the 'orgue de sirènes' instrument.
Education: Master's in Performance from the University of Montreal, further studies in improvisation with Robert Dick. She has taught masterclasses at institutions across Canada and Europe, including the Conservatories of Bordeaux and Lucerne. Administrative roles include Vice-President of Le Vivier (a Quebec network for new music) and former board member of the Conseil québécois de la musique.
Research focuses on expanding saxophone repertoire and new music exploration. Awards include OPUS prizes and the CMC Ambassador title. Active in juries and music advocacy.
