Marie-Chantal Fortin is a Full Professor in the Department of Medicine at the University of Montreal’s Faculty of Medicine. She is also a nephrologist at the CHUM Renal Transplant Team, a researcher at the Centre de Recherche du CHUM (CRCHUM), and holds clinical professor roles. Her research focuses on patient perspectives in transplantation, ethical challenges in kidney exchange programs, and qualitative methodologies. She earned a PhD in Bioethics from the University of Montreal (2008) and completed nephrology specialization training (2002).

Research Interests: Prioritization of research in renal transplantation, ethical issues in organ donation/exchange, patient-centered care models, and representation of transplantation in media.
Grants & Projects: Leads/co-leads multiple funded projects, including studies on ethical challenges in kidney exchange programs, patient engagement in transplantation research, and AI-driven organ allocation. Collaborates with the Canadian National Transplant Research Program and international ethics initiatives.
Advisees: Supervised Carina Sancho (Master’s) and Julie Allard (PhD). Active in training future researchers in clinical ethics and transplantation medicine.
Affiliations: Member of the Centre de Recherche en Éthique (CRE), CRCHUM, and international transplant ethics committees. Represents patients’ voices in policy development and clinical guidelines.
