Mariassunta Giannetti is the Katarina Martinson Professor of Finance at the Stockholm School of Economics (SSE), affiliated with the Swedish House of Finance (SHoF). She holds a Ph.D. in Economics from UCLA and degrees from Bocconi University. Her research focuses on corporate finance, financial intermediation, and governance, examining how institutions (formal and informal) influence corporate and investor behavior. Key areas include trade credit, banking crises, monetary policy transmission, and sustainability in finance.
She serves as an editor for leading journals such as the Journal of Finance and Journal of Financial Economics, and is a Fellow of the European Corporate Governance Institute (ECGI). Giannetti has received prestigious awards like the Assar Lindbeck Medal and the ECB Lamfalussy Fellowship. Her work bridges academia and policy, advising institutions like the European Central Bank. Her research often highlights how financial systems adapt to shocks and institutional frameworks, with recent studies addressing uncertainty, supply chain stability, and short-term investor roles.
