Mariano Longo is a Full Professor at the University of Salento, specifically within the Department of Human and Social Sciences. He is a Full Professor of General Sociology (SPS/07) and has served as the Director of the Department of History, Society, and Human Studies. Professor Longo's research focuses on the relationship between the individual and social structure, initially approached from a phenomenological perspective (Alfred Schuetz, Harold Garfinkel), but later shifting to contemporary German sociology, particularly Niklas Luhmann's systems theory, which remains the main theoretical focus of his work.
His research has covered diverse topics including:
