Stefano Cristante

Stefano Cristante is Full Professor of Sociology of Cultural and Communication Processes at the University of Salento, Italy, and serves as Rector’s Delegate for Institutional Communication. He is affiliated with the Department of Human and Social Sciences and has twice chaired the Bachelor’s degree program in Communication Sciences (2010-2014 and 2018-2022).

Professor Cristante’s scholarship lies at the intersection of sociology of public opinion, cultural production and consumption, media philosophy, and political communication. His work often foregrounds youth cultures and the symbolic dimensions of contemporary media environments.

His prolific output—more than 200 works—spans monographs, journal articles, and edited volumes. Recurring themes include the sociological reception of Marshall McLuhan, the narrative construction of Italian identity, and the mediation of political discourse, with recent attention to graphic literature and suburban imaginaries.
