Marianne Ulriksen is an Associate Professor at the Department of Political Science and Public Management, University of Southern Denmark (SDU), affiliated with the Danish Center for Welfare Studies. She holds a PhD from Aarhus University, specializing in Politics, Policy, and Poverty in Botswana, Mauritius, and other developing countries. Her research focuses on comparative welfare studies in the Global South, emphasizing social justice, poverty, taxation, and state-citizen relations in Africa.
Her academic career includes roles such as Senior Research Fellow at the University of Johannesburg and Post-Doctoral Fellow at Aarhus University. She leads SDU's JUST SOCIETY project, which promotes equality through legal and policy reforms. Her teaching spans comparative politics, public policy, and development studies in the Global South.
Ulriksen's research explores themes like taxation politics, social protection, and developmental state strategies in Africa. Her recent work includes analyzing tax reforms in Tanzania and social policy responses to the pandemic. She is actively involved in interdisciplinary collaborations, such as the Political Settlements and Revenue Bargains in Africa project.
