Marianne Montgomery is Associate Professor and Associate Dean for Faculty and Student Affairs at East Carolina University’s Department of English. She specializes in Shakespeare, Renaissance drama, and early modern cultural exchange, with emphasis on stage representations of language, gender, and transnational encounters.
Her research examines multilingualism in early modern theatre, Dutch cultural stereotypes, and adaptations of classical myths. Current work explores Shakespeare’s reception in American popular culture and the institutional challenges facing non-tenure-track faculty.
Awards include the Talton Leadership Award (2022) and Centennial Award for Excellence in Service (2015). She teaches courses on Shakespearean tragedy, comedy, history, and interdisciplinary topics linking literature to mythology.
