Marianne Koranda is a Researcher at the University of Vienna's Department of Microbiology and Ecosystem Science, affiliated with the Centre for Microbiology and Environmental Systems Science. Her work focuses on microbial ecology, soil biogeochemistry, and ecosystem processes in Arctic and Antarctic environments. Key research themes include plant-microbe interactions, carbon/nitrogen cycling, and the impact of bryophytes on soil organic matter dynamics.
She leads two major research projects: 'Effects of moss leachates on soil organic matter dynamics' (2022–2026) and 'Effects of bryophytes on soil microbial processes' (2017–2020). Her recent publications (2023–2024) address seasonal microbial nitrogen transformations in tundra soils and Antarctic soil microbial community dynamics. Collaborations span international institutions, emphasizing Arctic and Antarctic fieldwork.
Her contributions align with UN Sustainable Development Goals related to climate action and life on land. Active in academic discourse, Koranda has presented posters on topics like tree girdling experiments and moss-mediated nitrogen availability at scientific conferences since 2007.
