Marianne Allen is an Assistant Professor at the University of Pittsburgh School of Nursing in the Department of Health Promotion & Development. A seasoned perinatal clinical nurse specialist and educator with over 30 years of experience, her work focuses on maternal-child health, evidence-based practice, and nursing education. She actively collaborates with faculty to advance lifelong learning in nursing.
- Education: BSN, MN in Maternity Nursing (University of Pittsburgh), DrNP (Drexel University)
Her research emphasizes maternal well-being, postpartum depression, and breastfeeding initiatives. She led quality improvement projects to reduce newborn readmissions and improve care for late preterm infants, earning recognition through grants like the NICHQ-funded Baby Friendly USA designation program. Clinical expertise spans perinatal nursing, newborn health, and perinatal bereavement.
Dr. Allen teaches courses on maternal and neonatal care (NUR 1050c, 1250c) and has served on statewide task forces for pediatric palliative care and fatherhood initiatives. She is a member of the Association of Women’s Health, Obstetrics, and Neonatal Nursing (AWHONN) and Sigma Theta Tau.
